Mining regulator calls for collaboration with DCs

Mining and Minerals Regulatory Authority (MMRA) urged District Commissioners to enhance collaboration with key stakeholders to support national development through mining operations.

MMRA Director General, Samuel Sakhuta, made the remarks during a sensitisation and consultative meeting with District Commissioners from the Central Region, at Mponela in Dowa District.

Sakhuta emphasised the importance of understanding the new Mining Act, noting that increased awareness can help reduce issues related to unregulated mining activities.

Dowa District Commissioner, Stallichi Mwambiwa, expressed gratitude to MMRA and described the meeting as timely and valuable.

He noted that the platform allows for meaningful discussion on the challenges district councils face in promoting growth within the mining sector.

Mwambiwa further stated that the insights shared during the meeting would help align local efforts with the government’s Agriculture, Tourism, Mining and Manufacturing (ATM & M) Strategy for national development.
