The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has allotted new FM frequencies to licensed radio stations effective January 2024.
This is contained in a statement signed by MACRA’s Director General, Daud Sulemani.
In the exercise, MACRA has also identified free FM frequencies to be assigned to prospective stations.
“The project has ensured that the current solution will withstand the current demand and remain useful for many years to come,” said Suleman.
Among other advantages, the allocated frequencies will enable the stations to operate in any part of the country and the radio stations will easily be identified with their frequencies.
MACRA’s FM Spectrum Re-farming Project commenced last year. It seeks to realize free channels in the 87.5 – 108 MHz band to accommodate more licensees.
