Habitual thief sentenced to eight years in jail

Makande First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Chikwawa District has sentenced Nyaphoka Raphael to eight years in prison for burglary.

According to Dickson Matemba, spokesperson for Chikwawa Police Station, Raphael committed the offence on February 17, 2024 and was apprehended and taken to Ngabu Police Post.

Police Prosecutor Amos Bruno Jobo told the court that Raphael is a habitual offender.

Despite pleading not guilty, Raphael was convicted based on testimony from three witnesses.

Magistrate Chiyembekezo Phiri ordered Raphael to serve eight years in prison with hard labour as a deterrent to potential offenders.

Raphael is a resident of Watson Village, Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa District.
