The government has called upon the business community in the country to shift their focus from general trading to manufacturing aimed at export markets saying the strategic move is expected to catalyse substantial economic growth.
The call was made by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Sosten Gwengwe, in the capital city, Lilongwe. He was speaking at the launch of the 105th edition of the National Product Magazine.
“To leapfrog our economic growth, we must harness the potential of manufacturing for export,” Minister Gwengwe emphasised.
“The government is committed to fostering an environment conducive to investment in this sector.”
During the ceremony, Gwengwe elaborated on the government’s vision, stating, “Creating an enabling environment for investors to focus on manufacturing for export is a priority. This direction will significantly boost our country’s economy.”
Echoing the sentiment, the Minister of Labour, Agnes Nyalonje, addressed management of various companies, urging them to explore effective employee motivation strategies to enhance production.
“The key to unlocking our production potential lies in the hands of our workforce. It is imperative that we find innovative ways to inspire and motivate our employees,” she remarked.
Arthur Chinyamula, the Chief Executive Officer of National Product Magazine, highlighted the role of his publication in stimulating industrial competition and production.
“Through the awards we confer, we aim to celebrate excellence and encourage companies to strive for superior value addition,” he said.
Supporting the government’s stance, Rajneesh Dabral, the country manager for AVC Limited, shared his company’s commitment to value addition.
“We are in complete agreement with government’s vision. At AVC Limited, we are dedicated to adding value to our products, which aligns perfectly with the government’s export-oriented strategy,” said Dabral.
The ceremony was also a platform to honor several companies for their exceptional contributions to value addition. The awards serve as a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of businesses in Malawi, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
