Cholera outbreak hits Chitipa

Chitipa District Health Office (DHO) has confirmed a cholera case, which involves a six-year-old boy at Kamkwamba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nthalire in the district.

Spokesperson for Chitipa DHO, Masida Nyirongo, said Nthalire Health Centre on Monday registered two suspected cases of cholera, including the boy and they were isolated and put on treatment.

Nyirongo said laboratory tests on specimen from the boy turned out positive, marking the first case of cholera to be recorded in the district this year.

Last year, Chitipa district registered 96 cholera cases and three deaths.
