President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has underscored the need for Malawians living in the diaspora to always consider investing in Malawi for the continued development of the country.
The President made the remarks in Sandton City, South Africa, during an engagement meeting with Malawian business people based in South Africa.
The Malawi leader said Malawians living abroad and investors should realise the wide investment opportunities Malawi can offer them.
Dr Chakwera cited mining, agriculture, tourism, and transportation as some of the key sectors in which one can invest.
Speaking to MBC after the meeting, Minister of Finance, Sosten Gwengwe, said it is the role of every well-meaning Malawian to play a role in the development of the country.
“The President has just emphasised Malawi will only develop if the citizens take the lead in championing development,” he said.
Representatives of business people living in South Africa, Fumu Msiska, described the meeting as fruitful and assured the President that the team is ready to invest back home.r Chakwera arrived in South Africa on Sunday to attend the BRICS Summit, a grouping of five countries comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Other leaders are attending the summit at the invitation of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
