Chakwera commends Global Fund for strengthening Malawi’s health sector

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says the $525 million grant the Global Fund has approved for Malawi will consolidate gains the country has made in the fight against TB, HIV, and malaria. 

Dr Chakwera made the remarks at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during the official launch of the Global Fund Cycle 7 for Malawi, which aims to combat the diseases for the next three years.

The President said through previous grants, the government has improved access to healthcare services, drugs, infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles.

He applauded Global Fund and donors for their dedication and commitment to making the lives of Malawians healthier.

Mark Eldon Edington, Head of Grants Management Unit at Global Fund,  commended Malawi for the remarkable progress it has made in fighting the diseases despite facing challenges.

Edington said the Global Fund will ensure more Malawians continue to have access to ARVs, TB Treatment as well as mosquito nets for malaria prevention.

For the past 20 years, the Global Fund has invested $2.8 billion in Malawi to combat malaria, TB, and HIV.
