BIRTH CERTIFICATION TO ACCELERATE DEVELOPMENT

Minister of homeland security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma says birth registration is crucial in protecting the rights of children in any country.

Ng’oma said this at Karonga Community Ground where he launched Birth Certificate Distribution to parents for their children in the country.

Speaking at the launch of birth certificate distribution in Karonga, Minister of Homeland Security,  Ken Zikhale Ng’oma said registering the children will help the government to plan well on resources needed among others.

In his remarks, United Nations Development Program UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Challa Getachew said birth certificates help proper identification of children hence ensuring their safety and
rightful inheritances among others.

Paramount Chief Kyungu for Karonga and Chitipa asked people of the two districts to register their children, saying that will help to address age cheating in all sectors of the country.

The National Registration Bureau NRB from June this year is set to register about 8.4 million children below the age of 16.

This follows a successful pilot registration project in three districts of Karonga, Lilongwe Rural and Mwanza.
