Ascent Soccer Academy has humbled Silver Strikers’ Ladies in a thrilling 2-0 showdown this afternoon at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Silver Strikers’ Ruth Nyirongo stabbed her own team in the 24th minute with a goal that chipped her keeper as she was attempting to clear a cross.
Atuweni Njilima doubled the lead in the 67th minute and in the 35th minute, Ascent thought they had another goal but it was ruled offside.
The other finalist will be decided this afternoon at the same stadium as MDF Lionesses will face Civil Service Women.
In pre-match interviews, Lionesses coach Captain John Kaputa said he has set his sights on winning the competition for the first time.
Civil Women have a score to settle against Lionesses after they lost 3-0 in the first round before a 2-1 defeat in the second round of the regional play offs.
The final and third place play offs will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
