Ansah for legal compliance in public service reforms

Vice President Justice Dr. Jane Ansah has emphasised the importance of adhering to laws and proper procedures within ministries and government departments to prevent the misuse of public resources.

She made the call after meeting with senior government officials to learn about the progress of public reforms being championed by the Office of the Vice President.

Justice Ansah further noted that many positions within Ministerial Departments are not formally established, yet some individuals occupy these roles in violation of legal provisions.

According to her, the law provides for a non-established post only where there is a gap and there’s a need.

“And non-established should just go for one year. Beyond one year is against the law,” she stated.

She, therefore, urged all ministries and government departments to change their operational practices so they can serve and assist citizens effectively and in a timely manner.

Addressing the concerns raised, Principal Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, Charles Kalemba, stated that they have received clear directives for swift implementation across various sectors to ensure the government delivers timely and high-quality services to Malawians.

Kalemba emphasised that government departments will make new reforms aimed at tackling persistent national issues such as food insecurity, fuel shortages, and foreign exchange constraints.
