All is set for the 2023 Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Entertainers of The Year slated for this Saturday 30 December at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), Director General of MBC George Kasakula has made the assurance during a press briefing in Lilongwe.
Kasakula said everything is in place and the winners will be thanked in a special way as the corporation has prepared special packages such as air tickets, smartphones, plots and TV sets among others.
“Voting continues up to Saturday 6 pm and tickets are still being sold,” said Kasakula.
According to the chairperson of the organising committee who is also the Director of News and Programmes at MBC, Zilani Khonje Phiri, credibility and transparency in nomination and voting processes have been maintained.
In his remarks, Humphrey Mpondaminga, Director of Arts in the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture said there’s no development of arts minus media houses like MBC.
“It remains a fact that MBC is a big player in the arts industry and initially it had recording studios which produced most of the classic songs in the 70s, 80s and early 90s which are still enjoying airplay in most stations across the country. MBC should be commended for bringing back Entertainers of The Year. This is a big stage to showcase talent,” said Mpondaminga.
Entertainers of The Year Awards has returned after a break of 18 years. This year nominations are in seven categories recognising diverse talents within the entertainment industry.
