Students at St Claude Secondary School in Chileka, Blantyre, have been warned that acts such as bullying, theft and sharing obscene pictures online are criminal offences that could jeopardise their future.
Chileka Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Lano Kamwendo, issued the warning during a crime awareness campaign at the school on Friday.
Kamwendo further warned students against drug and alcohol abuse, saying drugs such as cannabis and cocaine are destroying the lives of many young people.
Board Chairperson for St Claude Secondary School, Friday Kumitengo, said the awareness will help reduce indiscipline and promote a safe learning environment at the school.
Kumitengo said the campaign also encouraged learners to focus on their education, respect teachers and fellow students, and use social media responsibly.
One of the students, Chisomo Mukaka, who is also the Deputy Head Girl at the school, said the awareness was beneficial.
She said the students have been empowered to report bullies, drug and substance abusers, and any suspicious behaviour to teachers, parents, or the police, instead of taking the law into their own hands.
