Lands Minister commissions disaster resilient houses in Mulanje

Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba on Monday commissioned 14 disaster-resilient houses for Cyclone Freddy survivors in the area of Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje.

Gumba told MBC that government will continue supporting the survivors with basic amenities, including running water.

Mulanje is one of the districts that was hit hard by Cyclone Freddy in March last year.

The houses in M’motola Village in the border district have been constructed with support from the Malawi Red Cross Society, with financial assistance from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red  Crescent Societies to over K100 million.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Red Cross Society has pledged to continue lobbying for funds from local and international partners to assist all the survivors as over 50 households in the area still need support.
