European Union (EU) says it is committed to supporting Malawi as the 2025 General Elections draw near.
Rune Skinnebach, EU Ambassador to Malawi,has told journalists in Blantyre that €3 million (approximately K5.5 billion) has already been contributed to the cause through the United Nations Development Programme’s election trust fund.
He said with the budget for the elections pegged at around K230 billion, they are working with the Ministry of Local Government regarding the issuance of National Identity Cards.
“We are also helping the National Initiative for Civic Education to conduct voter education, so we are very ready,” Skinnebach remarked.
Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s Angel Chima, who was among those in attendance, applauded the EU Ambassador’s transparency to the media.
