Inflation rate goes down

Headline inflation has gone down to 31.8 percent in March 2024, from 33.5 percent in February.

The decline, according to figures from the National Statistical Office, is on account of a drop in food inflation.

The food inflation rate has dropped to 38.8 percent during the month, from 42 percent in February.

Secretary to Treasury, Betchani Tchereni, says coupled with a tight monetary policy stance the Reserve Bank of Malawi is pursuing, the onset of the harvesting season will see inflation rate continue decreasing.

A drop in inflation rate means that the general increase in prices of goods and services is going down.
