SWED AWARDS BEST TEACHERS, STUDENTS

South West Education Division – SWED has awarded teachers and students from various secondary schools for their outstanding performance in the 2021 Malawi School Certificate of Education results.

Education Manager for the Division, Henry Gwede, said the awards act as a motivation tool for secondary school teachers and students to put more effort into their careers.

” This is the fourth edition of the awards and we have seen a change in terms of performance. More students are getting good grades like you heard a teacher can produce 83 students scoring distinctions in his or her subject during MSCE results. This is encouraging,” Gwede said.

A teacher who made 83 students scoring distinctions in Agriculture subject at Blantyre Secondary School last year, Bartholomew Gwadira, received K250 thousand cash, a medal and a certificate for emerging best teacher in 2021.

” I never expected such gifts and I feel delighted. My secret was to ensure I finish the syllabus thoroughly and on time so I could have revision time thereafter,” Gwadira said.

Professor of Public Health and Medicine, Adamson Muula, from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences who was guest of honour urged the students to be focused on their studies to excel in life.

Community, day and national secondary schools in the South West Education Division, like Chirimba CDSS, Chichiri, Mjamba and Stella Maris Secondary Schools were awarded in their respective categories.
