The laws of Malawi mandate government to dissolve all the NGOs that have not been registered aftera period of 30 days.

Currently Malawi has 328 un-re registered organizations out of all the 700.

This has come following complaints from one of the directors of the national supervisory body known as NGO Body Emily Banda. Banda complained that some of the unregistered organizations are frustrating the progress and harmonization of NGOs in the country.

Meanwhile, NGO gender GCN national chairperson Emma Kaliya said the problem has come about because many people decide to establish an NGO without following proper procedures.

“it is not possible that everyone can be in the civil society; the fact that some organizations are failing to perform is a clear sign that some of these so called NGOs were formed without a clear vision,” said Kaliya.

Kaliya added that most of the unregistered organizations are the ones bringing divisions among them as they do not have strong values to present to possible donors when asking for funding.
