REPSSI Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Onyango said this during a virtual media briefing for East and Southern African journalists held on Wednesday ahead of the 6th REPSSI forum scheduled to take place in October this year.
Onyango said the forum is an opportunity to draw different minds into a common place with a common goal to come up with ideas and home grown solutions on the delivery of psychosocial support to those in need.
“During the pandemic, we have seen lots of suffering as others have ben in lock down, children have dropped out of school, families are struggling to get their daily needs, and people have lost their loved ones.
“There is need for psychosocial support yet the people able to deliver such services are quite few….we will continue to work with national governments, local governments and NGOs to support them to integrate psychosocial support into their regular programs,” he said.
REPSSI promotes an enabling environment for communities and families to nurture, protect and empower girls, boys and youth to enhance their mental health and psychosocial wellbeing by providing technical leadership in psychosocial support for children and youth in 13 countries in East and Southern Africa.
