Chairperson for Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority’s Technical Committee Sam Chimang'anga made the call during the opening of a two day refresher training of MEC Commissioners and Executive Management on procurement at Sun Bird Hotel in Mangochi.

Chimang'anga further emphasised on the need for MEC to put into practice what is called 20 percent preference margin in a bid to prioritise indigenous black Malawians in public procurements.

“On top of this the Commission should also follow Micro Small and Medium Enterprise order of 2020 which gives procurement entities the responsibility to apportion a section of their procurement for indigenous enterprises” Said Chimang’anga.

Speaking on behalf of MEC Chairperson, Commissioner responsible for Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Emmanuel Fabiano said the training has come at an opportune time as the Commission handles big budget and most of it goes to procurement of goods and services.

“It is therefore a prerequisite for everyone within the Commission to be conversant with the procurement process” He explained.
