COVID -19: Blantyre City bans street vending, night clubbing, weddings

Blantyre City on Monday banned street vending, weddings, and other social gatherings within the city due to Corona Virus disease (COVID-19), Mayor Wild Ndipo announced.  


“Today I come before you with both sadness that I am taking away some of your most treasured freedoms, and hope that my actions will ensure that you are protected from Corona virus Disease (COVID 19) and do live to enjoy these rights in future,” the Mayor told journalists in Blantyre.


The ban, which is with immediate effect, shall include bridal showers, engagements, live band performances, crusades, sporting activities, and night clubs.


For funeral and other emergencies, the mayor said the council is advising the convinors to take precautionary measures, by limiting the number of attendees and also ensuring that there is provision of water buckets and hand washing soap.


The council is advising all venders who were plying their trades along the street to immediatetly relocate to the designated area.
