According to Limbe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Pedzesayi Zembeneko, the incident happened on the night of 15th May when a gang of about 10 people broke into the house in Bvumbwe at Kapsepse Village in Thyolo intending to steal.

Zembeneko said however the gang was chased away by community members where two men were caught and beaten to death before they were set ablaze.

“On the following day, one of the suspects who managed to run away arrived at Kapsepse Village. Immediately, he was beaten to death and set ablaze. All the dead bodies have been conveyed at Thyolo District Hospital waiting for postmortem and identification by relatives,” explained Zembeneko.

Zembeneko however condemned the act of mob justice by saying it is illegal and disturbs investigations.

Zembeneko further appealed to the general public to report any incident to police rather than the public taking the Law of the land in their hands.

“Citizens should desist from acts of mob justice, it is an offense and it retards investigations. Citizens taking law in their own hands is a serious offence,” he appealed adding that police have so far launched investigations into the matter.
