Chilima hailed government for the initiative, which said would provide local entrepreneurs with an opportunity to have business talks with potential Chinese investors.
Speaking to MBC Edward Chilima said the forum will play an important role in introducing local businesses on the international landscape and in the long run promoting export of goods.
“This is recommendable; we need foreign direct investment in the country especially in strategic areas like education and agriculture. It is an opportunity for Malawian entrepreneurs to learn skills from Chinese investors,” said Chilima.
The forum was officially opened by President Peter Mutharika on Tuesday, June 21 2016.
The president said Malawi needs transformational investments that will substitute imports and propel exports.
The Malawi leader said the three areas of education, industry and agriculture which the Chinese business persons are eyeing in their investments are at the heart of his vision for the country. Professor Mutharika also said Government is implementing Public Sector Reforms to ensure a conducive business environment.
The Investment Forum is being held under the theme; “Fostering Production Cooperation between the Chinese Province of Anhui and Malawi”.
