Launching the project was the Minister responsible Bright Msaka who said the project will among others help reveal the volumes of various minerals the country has.
“We were happy when we launched the results of this survey last year; the results were telling us that Malawi is rich in minerals. What we are launching today is actually going to tell us what is there, how much is there and of what quality is there,” said Msaka adding that it is extremely important for investors to come in the country already aware than spending their money investigating the minerals Malawi has.
The Minister further states that the government is keen to make Malawi a serious mining country.
The project is financed by France to the tune of 10 Million Euros under a debt agreement with Malawi.
Chairperson and CEO of DRGM a French Geological Surveying company, Vincent Laflenche said the company will take part in the mineral assessment project.
“We expect two benefits; one is to have a better knowledge about minerals and mining industry, secondly, to assess knowledge about risk and natural risks to facilitate risk prevention,” said Laflenche.
