President Mutharika sounded the warning at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe when four ministries signed performance contracts aimed at achieving the Public Service Reforms Agenda.

He said the contracts will act as a benchmark to assess whether the ministries were delivering or not.

The four ministries which signed the performance contracts were the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development; the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs; and the Ministry of Sports and Culture.

In his remarks President Mutharika said the fact that Malawians are talking and discussing reforms on daily basis, it is a clear indication that there is a national consensus that Government needs to change the way it conducts business in the country.

"It is more befitting and proper that more ministries should join in the reforms agenda. I am, therefore, proud that once again today we have witnessed the signing of the Performance Contracts by these four ministries," said Mutharika.

The Malawi leader advised the Ministers responsible to ensure improved delivery of services as per expectations of Malawians.

"Let me warn you that signing and implementing are two different things. I want results just like the pioneer ministries have demonstrated. Underperformance will not be tolerated," reiterated Mutharika.

President Mutharika appealed to all public officials in the four ministries to work with zeal so that the set targets in these Performance Contracts are achieved by the set dates.

The Malawi leader urged the Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is the Chairperson of the Public Service Reform Commission to produce the same results with parastatal organizations.

"It is my government’s quest to achieve optimal efficiency in the delivery of services to the general public. I remain resolute that reforms, this time have to be implemented. I place the highest priority in the public service reform agenda. Together let us join hands to Making Malawi Work," concluded Mutharika.
