Neno Rural Growth Centre will be officially opened by President Peter Mutharika on Thursday, 23 June 2016.
The Office of the President and Cabinet says the Professor Mutharika is expected to arrive at Neno Rural Growth Centre at One O’clock in the afternoon.
A lot of people have been migrating from rural areas to urban areas to seek fortunes, according to Nankhumwa.
“This is a strategy by government to transform rural to urbanization,” said the Minister adding that the rural growth centre will help to reduce urban pressure on the resources like water, electricity and land.
Nankhumwa further said people will be doing their businesses in their communities at the same time create job opportunities for others.
“People who are looking for jobs and business opportunities would be able to get them in their rural set-up,” said Nankhumwa.
The rural growth center project started during late Bingu Wa Mutharika’s reign with an aim of providing jobs for people in rural areas and help reduce urban population.
Neno is among the growth centers the Government of Malawi is developing. Other growth centers are Jenda in Mzimba, Malomo in Ntchisi district, Monkey Bay in Mangochi and Chitekesa in Phalombe district
