Representatives of the 12 Chikulamayembe Royal Families in Rumphi District say they uphold the June 9, 2021 endorsement of Joseph Bongololo Gondwe as heir to the Chikulamayembe chieftaincy.

Speaking in Mzuzu during a press briefing, Group Village Headmen from the royal families that previously belonged to two camps that were fighting for the chieftaincy.

The traditional leaders said, for the past one hundred and eleven years, the Chikulamayembe chieftaincy has been stuck in one family and it is now time to start rotating it to all the 12 royal families as their tradition demands.

 

Rumphi District Commissioner, Fred Movete confirmed about the meeting but referred the reporter to the royal families on the claimed decision by the two camps.

Government has given motorcycle taxi operators-known as Kabaza six months to insure their motorcycles and secure driving licenses if they are to continue operating on the country’s roads.  


Speaking to the leadership of Kabaza operators at police headquarters in Lilongwe, Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda said motorcycle operators will be trained by a specified organization at an affordable fee.

Malawi and Zimbabwe on Monday renewed their 25-year old bilateral trade agreement that aims at boosting trade between the two countries. The first agreement was signed in 1995.
