Minister responsible Khumbize Chiponda was speaking at a joint press conference with the Muslim Association of Malawi
On Monday in Lilongwe ahead of Eid al Adha celebrations this week Wednesday.
"Avoid large gatherings and events especially if you are among high risk groups or if you are unfeeling well", said Chiponda.
In his remarks, Spokesperson for the Muslim Association of Malawi Sheikh Dinala Chabulika concurred with Chiponda, adding that the Muslim community has lost prominent people due to the COVID - 19 pandemic.
"Prevention is better than cure, so let us pray and celebrate Eid al Adha while protecting each other from catching the virus", said Sheikh Dinala.
Eid al-Adha is an Arabic word for festival of sacrifice. It celebrates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God's command.
