Police will ‘control any acts of violence': IG assures Malawians

Malawi Police Service on Tuesday assured Malawians that Police have put in place necessary measures to control any acts of violence before, during and after the February 3 judgement of the presidential case to ensure law and order is maintained.

“Any person planning to cause unrest during this period will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” Acting Inspector General of Police, Duncan Mwapasa, said in a statement.


The IG said the MPS was requesting all Malawians to support and cooperate with Police, exercise restraint and to remain peaceful.


He said by nature, court verdicts “cannot be in favour of both parties to the case…only one party to the case will emerge victorious.”


The IG said all Malawians should accept and respect the judgement “regardless of whether it is in their favour or not.”
