The Mulanje First Grade Magistrate Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced 20-year old Chimwemwe Mashalubu to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defilement. In June this year the convict defiled the girl at his house. This happened as the victim was on her way to collect firewood with her friend. While at a friend's home, Mashalubu came taking the two to his house where he defiled the girl.

The Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Mzuzu has convicted and sentenced Esther Mbale 37 to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for the charge of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 301(1) of the penal code.
