Government says it will ensure that perpetrators of sexual violenceare given stiffer punishments. Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo saidthis in Rumphi during the handover ceremony of a police victim support unit which has been refurbished under the European Union Chilungamo project.

In a related development, World Vision Malawi has stepped up efforts to lobby Members of Parliament to consider amending the sexual violence and exploitation laws. The organisation had an Interface with various stakeholders committed to safeguarding the girl child.

The Nkhata Bay District Elections Supervisor Team, DEST, says, so far, the voting process in the Nkhata Bay Fresh Parliamentary election which started at a low note earlier this morning is slowly picking up with relatively longer queues in some polling centers. DEST member who is also District Commissioner for Nkhatabay, Rodney Simwaka, said he is hoping that more voters will turn out before the centres are closed at 6 this evening.
