Colonel Fostino Gundaphiri, Chief Executive Officer, for MDF Construction Company said this when Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works, Nancy Chaola Mdooko, inspected progress of the works.
Gundaphiri said the project has been behind schedule due to a number of factors, some bordering on delayed payment.
He said: "At the moment, the Government has made some part payment of about K7 billion out of the initial K9.7 billion and the works are progressing well."
The MDF CEO added that the team is done fixing tarmac, a stretch of about 9 kilometres out of the 20 Kilometer stretch from Tsangano turn off to Kambilonjo.
Currently, the team is excavating rocks, a thing that was not envisaged at the onset of the project.
In her remarks, Mdooko said Government will grant the contractor the extension period saying so far the quality of the work is encouraging.
