In an interview with Malawi News Agency on Monday, Chiwamba said he has lived a dream of speaking through poetry on behalf of the old and vulnerable people on issues which affect them.

“I will clock 10 years in poetry performance by the end of July this year. This period has been a mixed bag. First and foremost, I have had a lot of opportunities that I wouldn’t attain if I were not a poet.

“For instance, I had an opportunity to recite at the State House,” Chiwamba said.

The artist further explained he also represented Malawi at United Nations Education Scientific Culture Organization (UNESCO) as European Union (EU) Skills and Technical Education Program Ambassador.

“Poetry has taken me to Sweden. I have also achieved several awards. On the other side, piracy has been one of my major challenges.

“This challenge has made me not to get royalties from Copyright Society of Malawi as I was supposed to,” he said.

The poet also expressed concern with the phasing out of Compact Disks (CDs), a development which he said has affected his poetry marketing.

“I have made a lot of friends who have helped me to grow as a poet. I have gone to places where I would not have gone without poetry,” said Chiwamba.

Commenting on his future plans, Chiwamba said he will be exploring things which he has never done before, citing video shooting among his new avenues.

One of the persons who commented on Chiwamba’s Facebook Page, Moses Mkwinda, said he would love if Chiwamba could shoot a video of a poem titled ‘Mkuluyi wapita ndi ndalama zanga’.

“This is a lovely poem. This is the poem of all times,” Mkwinda said.

Another Chiwamba’s Facebook fan, Chimwemwe Nyandula, said all the poems of Chiwamba are good and it is very difficult to choose the best out of the many.

“In short, let us just say thanks to God for the talent. You have entertained, educated and preached the gospel through your talent. Continue the good work, be humble and God-fearing,” Nyandula said.
