Malawi is among 32 low and middle-income countries selected to benefit from the Pandemic Fund Governing Board (PFGB), which has approved US$25 million in grants under its third Call for Proposals.
The announcement was made during the Board’s meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, on November 19, 2025.
Public Surveillance Officer in the Ministry of Health, Noel Khunga, said the winning proposal was developed in collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) active in the health sector.
Malawi had previously been unsuccessful in both the first and second calls.
Khunga added that the work was undertaken through a joint initiative known as Strengthening Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response through the One Health Approach in Malawi (SP3ROHAM).
Since its establishment in February 2023, the Pandemic Fund has issued just three Calls for Proposals but is already set to mobilise over US$11 billion, reaching 98 countries across six regions.
