Malawi Queens to face Botswana in 2025 Netball Africa Cup opener

Local Organising Committee for the forthcoming Netball Africa Cup has unveiled this year’s fixture for the tournament, which will run from 8 to 14 December at the Griffin Saenda Complex in Lilongwe.

Malawi Queens have been placed in Pool A alongside Botswana, Tanzania and rivals South Africa, while the Men’s team is in Pool 2 alongside Eswatini, Kenya and Namibia.

According to the fixture, the Malawi Queens will face Botswana in the official opening match at 5pm, while the Malawi Kings will take on Eswatini later in the evening.

In the other groups, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Kenya are in Pool 2 of the women’s category, while South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Botswana form Pool 1 in the men’s category.

Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Limbani Matola, said they are prepared to host a successful tournament.

Matola added that a small daily entry fee has been introduced as a crowd-control measure to maintain the required capacity at the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex.

Queens Coach Peace Kalua and Captain Takondwa Lwazi have both assured Malawians that the team is ready to fight to keep the trophy at home.

The tournament will now feature eight teams, following the withdrawal of Zambia and Lesotho due to financial constraints.
