His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is also expected to cast his vote in Thyolo East on Tuesday.
As of Monday afternoon all the voting materials have been dispatched to their designated polling centers amid tight security in all areas.
Constituency Retaining Officer for Thyolo Thava Evelyn Khanyizira tod MBC at the closure of business on Monday that all was set for the elections and they were hopeful that everything would flow smoothly as planned.
“We have completed all the preparations and what is remaining now is to distribute IDs to all the polling staff and media so that they should be able to vote where ever they might be stationed,” said Khanyezera.
And a visit to some areas in the district shows that people are ready for the much awaited moment when they will be able to choose a leader of their choice. At Thyolo market vendors where were busy packing their cassava tubers in bags enroute to Blantyre the mood was that of excitement and expectations were high.
“We can’t wait to cast our vote! We are so excited because there have been a lot of political talk recently but we are the final decision makers.”
Another woman just said she could not wait to vote so as to keep all the political noise to rest.
Currently a final tally center for Thyolo has been set at Mpinji Primary School in the district and a visit to the center found officers doing final touches ahead of the polling day.
There are seven constituencies in Thyolo and Statistics are showing that 279,233 people registered in the district with 166,585 females and 122,648 being males. The tea growing district has 45 male shadow members of parliament while as 9 are females bringing the number to 54.
In addition the district has 80 male shadow councilors and 25 female shadow councilors who are contesting in this election. The total number for the candidates in the district is 159 and 176 polling centers have been instituted in different places across the district.
Over 7 million people registred for this much contested watershed election.
