DPP storms Karonga with civic and voter registration message

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has urged people in Karonga to register in large numbers so that they should vote and keep DPP and President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in power.

DPP Secretary General, Grelzedar Jeffrey made the appeal at Uliwa Trading Centre in Karonga during a political meeting organized to remind people on their right and power to vote.

Currently the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is conducting voter registration in Karonga, Rumphi and Chitipa in the North among other district in other regions.

"Registration is the starting point of being a responsible citizen, if you register you are likely to exercise your right to vote that's why as a party, we have gone flat out urging people to register," said the Secretary General.

Commenting on the large turnout, Jeffrey said this is a sign that people are willing to hear message of hope from their focused and people centered-party, the DPP.

"We are also unpacking the DPP manifesto which is reflected in a number of development projects across the country. We are receiving a lot of support but and we urging all these people to register and vote for DPP and its leadership so that development should continue in the country," she said.

Regional Governor for the North, Kenneth Sanga urged people not to be swatted away by some tricksters who have nothing to deliver and are wasting their time tarnishing the good image of the country, s leadership

"Apart from sensitization meetings we are holding to make people aware of the need to take part in elections, we are informing our members to stand still and not be swayed by some people who have nothing to deliver, " said Sanga.

Speaking on behalf of traditional leaders in the area Senior Chief Wasambo could not hide his excitement to the President for among others increasing their monthly honoraria, roads projects, water projects, free secondary education which have transformed the area.

In his remarks, DPP Candidate for Karonga South Constitutiency, Malani Mtonga hailed the chiefs and other local leaders for recognizing government’s efforts to develop the area.

During the meeting the party also promised to rehabilitate the Uliwa-Fuliwa road and Uliwa -Jetty road concerns in the area.
