DD Phiri hospitalised: MAWU appeals for goodwill

Renowned author, historian and economist Dr. Desmond DudwaPhiri, popularly known as D.D. Phiri is battling for his life at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

Phiri, who is in his late eighties has been in the hospital for almost three weeks and much of his ailing has been lack of appetite with no or little food consumption and for almost a week he has been panickly breathing, a reason why he has been on Oxygen-supporting machine.

An acclaimed national and international figure who is also a columnist in both leading daily, The Nation and The Daily Times, Phiri has also received accolades from the Presidential Award, the University of Malawi, the Pan African Writers association (PAWA) and the Malawi Writers Union (MAWU).

“Malawi Writers Union, whose board is headed by the icon would like to ask people of goodwill for their prayers and financial assistance that may recommend him to a relevant international hospital,” said MAWU President Sambalikagwa Mvona.
