The situation left Joseph and Brenda destitute and without parents. The situation left Joseph and Brenda with a condition of living a poverty stricken life without food, children who could not go to school while their friends were going, and living in a shark that was left by their parents.

In 2016 MBC through Reach Out and Touch program visited the children at Chibwana Village in the area of Traditional Authority Sitola in Machinga and did a program. According to Joseph the Reach Out and Touch program was a turning point in their life.

“MBC comes here in Liwonde to record Reach Out and Touch program. Brenda and I felt like God himself has paid us a visit. When the program was aired it’s when we started receiving food assistance, groceries, school fees and other basic needs started coming from non-other than the First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika through Beautify Malawi Trust initiative,” said Joseph.

“As school fees, groceries and other general basic assistance were not enough, the First Lady upon seeing our house on a Reach Out and Touch program she also promised us that she is going to construct a house for me and my sister. In 2018 we felt like a dream is coming true when Beautify Malawi officials started coming for the commencement of a construction work of our house,” he said.

Today Joseph is the happiest orphan to have ever lived on planet earth as the First Lady has fulfilled her promise and constructed a magnificent Ten Million kwacha House, state of the art Sofa set, beds and mattresses, curtains, and all other needed household materials.

Reacting to the development Joseph says the First Lady and Beautify Malawi Trust are a friend indeed.

Speaking after handing over the house keys and the entire house to Joseph and Brenda who are now 19 years and 17 years respectively, special advisor to the First Lady Emma Mabvumbe said they are not yet done with the family. They would like to ensure that Both Joseph and Brenda attain education in schools of their choice.

“The First Lady who is the patron of BEAM Trust, started assisting these children after watching Reach Out and Touch program that was aired on MBC TV in 2016. She sent the children to very expensive schools, Joseph to Dedza Secondary School where he has finished his form four and Brenda to Bedir International High School. Today we are witnessing the handover ceremony of a beautiful house to Joseph and Brenda courtesy of the First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika,” said Mabvumbe.

According to Mabvumbe, Beautify Malawi will continue assisting Joseph and Brenda until they attain their desired education so that they become better citizens of the country.

Witnessing the whole exercise was the chief executive officer for Machinga District Council Thomas Munthali who has described the gesture by the First Lady as rare and meaning to social economic development of the country.
