Standard Bank donates to Chisawani Primary School

One of the leading commercial banks in the country, Standard Bank, on Friday donated assorted learning materials worthy about MK2 million to Chisawani Primary School at Bvumbwe in Thyolo District.

The donation, which is part of the bank’s 50th anniversary, also included football and netball kits.

The bank also has maintained two blocks that were in dilapidated state.

Giving the donation, Standard Bank Deputy Head of Corporate Investment Banking, Linda Manda, said they decided to help Chisawani Primary School as one way of improving education standards in the country.

“Education is the bedrock of development in any country. For Malawi education standards to improve, it will take Malawians themselves, whether individuals or organizations, to contribute towards the availability of basic needs in the sector.

As a corporate citizen, Standard Bank fully understands the importance of supporting education endeavors. Today’s event is memorable because just yesterday, Standard Bank celebrated 50 years since it opened its operations in Malawi.

“This achievement and the legacy that as a company it has mostly come about due to the quality of education in the country,” said Manda.

Receiving the donation, Head-teacher for Chisawani Primary School Alex Mabedi said the items had come at a right time as the school, which opened its doors in 1960, was lacking in many areas.

“Standard Bank has met as at our point of need. The learning materials will go in the long way to ease our work as teachers, and motivate our learners. And the sports materials will also push our school to do better in as far as sports competition is concerned,” said Mabedi.
