Minibus driver behind bars for causing death in BT

A 48- year old pedestrian Mika Kadewere died in a road accident which happened in the evening hours of May 20, 2018 at Nazarene along Robert Mugabe Highway. The accident involved motor vehicle registration number BR5777 Toyota Hiace which was being driven by Owen Khuleya.

According to Widson Nhlane who is Limbe police deputy spokesperson, the suspected driver was driving the minibus from Limbe heading towards Banana area along the highway. Upon arrival at Nazerene, he hit a male pedestrian Mika Kadewere who was crossing the road from left to right.

 

“Due to the impact, he sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. After the accident, for fear of his life the driver rushed to Bangwe Police sub Station where he reported the matter. He is in police custody and already charged with the offence of causing death by reckless driving which contraves section 126 of Road Traffic Act,” he explained.

 

The deceased hailed from Mgomanjira in Traditional Authority Machinjiri Blantyre and the driver comes from Ganamba village in Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa.

 

Police are advising road users or motorists to observe road signs to avoid such accidents.
