Teachers behind bars for embezzling MSCE exam fees

Two teachers of Our Hope Private Secondary School in Area 25 (Lilongwe) are in custody at Kanengo Police Station for allegedly embezzling exam fees for 14 prospective MSCE candidates.

According to Sub Inspector Laban Makalani who is spokesperson at Kanengo police, the teachers, identified as Christopher Manondo aged 36 and Rodgers Soko aged 55 are suspected to have misappropriated a sum of K392, 000.00 for the 14 MSCE candidates.

 

“The students reported the matter to police after establishing that their names were missing from an exam's nominal roll in April this year. The head teacher of the school who is only identified as a Mr Gondwe is currently on the run in connection to the case,” said Makalani.

 

During the previous academic calendar (2016-2017), the school which was operating as Gracious Private Secondary School was also involved in another MSCE exam scam pegged at MK1.3 million which affected 150 candidates. In connection to the 1.3 million case, the school's director who is only identified as a Mr Mphande is currently on the run.

 

The police added that the suspects are expected to appear before court soon to face charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretences.
