Ambassador Cho made the remarks when he visited the institution’s offices in Blantyre.

He visited the institution after presenting his letters of credence to His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.

The Ambassador noted that through its programming, MBC plays a crucial role in helping the masses to make decisions from an informed point view.

Cho disclosed his government’s interest in strengthening the cooperation between Malawi and Korea in the field of broadcasting.

“MBC is playing a very important role in the development of Malawi. MBC has great potential, I see a very strong team at the institution and the corporation needs to develop more in its equipment and technical expertise. As Korea we will see how we can help the institution in this area,” said Ambassador Cho.

In his remarks, Director General of the MBC Aubrey Sumbuleta said the institution has benefitted a lot, through such visits.

According to Sumbuleta, the benefits include exchange visits and training opportunities for members of staff, as well as donation of equipment.

“We get more inspired; we get more encouragement with such high level visits. There are various products of such visits to MBC like training opportunities, exchange visits and equipment.

The bond of friendship between the people of Korea and Malawi is very strong as we have a lot of Korean projects in the country,” said Sumbuleta pointing out that the ambassador decided to visit MBC as his first assignment in the country after noting how influential the mother broadcaster is on development.

Ambassador Cho will be based in Zimbabwe and will be responsible for Malawi, Zambia and his host country.
