President Peter Mutharika is returning from United States of America (USA), where he attended the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), on Monday October 2.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Chief Secretary to the Government Lloyd Muhara said President Mutharika is expected to jet into Malawi through the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe at 12:30 in the afternoon.


President Mutharika and the First Lady Dr. Gertrude Mutharika arrived in New York on Saturday September 16 for the UNGA and other high level meetings.


The first couple got into serious business on Monday September 18 with President Mutharika attending a high level event on ending Child Marriage at UNICEF House, while the First Lady attended the 6th African First Ladies and Spouses meeting at Westin Grand Central Hotel. Later on the same day, Dr. Gertrude Mutharika also attended the Speak Up Gala at the Tribeca, which is within New York.


The Malawi leader addressed the assembly on Wednesday, September 20 centering his address on the need for countries to invest in youth.
