According to the State Press Office, the Episcopal Ordination ceremony will be conducted at Zomba Catholic Secondary School Ground and shall commence at 09.30 in the morning upon the arrival of President Mutharika at the venue.
Father George Tambala was born on 11th November, 1968 in the Diocese of Zomba. He began his primary school education at Ulongwe during which he was accepted in the minor seminary of Nankhunda Jesus Child in Zomba.
Father Tambala joined the Discalced Carmelites in 1990. After the two years of philosophy in the Intercongregational Seminary of Balaka, and once completed the theological studies in the Tangaza College in Nairobi, Kenya, he did the solemn profession on August 15, 1995 in the Carmel of Malawi , and he was ordained as a priest on April 13, 1996.
Since then, Father Tambala has held a number of portfolios in the Catholic Church which include: Parochial Vicar in Kapiri, the Arch-diocese of Lilongwe; Superior and Provincial Delegate of the Discalced Carmelites in Malawi and Vice Director of the Centre of Spirituality Saint John of the Cross in Nyungwe, Blantyre; President of the Association of Superior Majors of Malawi (AMRIM) among other positions.
Currently, Father Tambala is General Definer of the Discalced Carmelites in charge of Africa.
It was on October 15, 2015 that Pope Francisco named Father George Tambala as Bishop of Zomba Diocese.
