The portion covers 2O kilometres from Neno Boma to Ligowe.
China Geo-Engineering Company is the contractor for the project. After visiting the site and appreciating the design, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara, said what is on the ground is promising.
Business Manager for China Geo-Engineering Company, Gavin Wu, said despite other challenges, delays in the relocation of power lines and water pipes will not derail the progress and Malawians should expect that a class one tarmac road on this portion will be complete in January 2023.
The upgraded road will have a 6.8m carriageway and 1.5m shoulders on each side. The pavement layers will be gravel sub base with a crushed stone base and 50mm asphalt concrete surfacing.
Several drainage structures will be constructed. Thecontract sum is about K6.6 billion fully funded by the Government of Malawi.
