Member of Parliament for Thyolo Central Ben Malunga Phiri has been ordered out of Parliament for not wearing a necktie, which according to the Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda, was a breach on the Standing Order that deals with the Parliamentary Dressing Code. Phiri has since obliged and has left the August House.

This year’s Kulamba Traditional Ceremony of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique has been cancelled due to the rising cases of COVID-19 pandemic in Malawi and Zambia. Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi of the Chewa people directed that the ceremony which usually takes place towards the end of August at Mkaika in Zambia, be cancelled. Confirming the development to MBC, Senior Chief Lukwa has meanwhile advised his subjects to adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines, adding that following health advice is the only way the pandemic will be defeated. He hopes the ceremony will take place next year.

Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has slashed by half the fees which service providers pay when they want their goods and services to be certified. This has been announced by MBS Director General Symon Mandala at the end of a training which MBS and SMED was drilling Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from the eastern region in product improvement.

43 Visually Impaired people have graduated after finishing their studies at Mulanje Vocational Training Centre for the Blind. The skills they have acquired are expected to help them be independent and engage in activities which will transform their lives.
