Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) Livingstonia synod has accepted Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango and his Kanengo congregation to secede from their allegiance to the Synod immediately.

This follows the application by the Kanengo congregation led by its minister Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango made on the 24th April this year.

However Livingstonia Synod has also ordered the congregation and its leader to vacate from the synod`s premises in Lilongwe or face legal action.

The action emanates from disagreements which arouse when the synod decided to transfer Rev. Mhango to another church in the northern region, an action the congregation vehemently protested.

In a letter addressed to the congregation, dated may the 4th, the synod has ordered the congregation to vacate the premises with immediate effect.

“Following the latter which you declared your interest to detach yourself from the synod, we therefore accept the request and orders you to vacate synod premises.” reads the latter.

The letter further went on to warn the congregation that they risk a legal action if they fail to vacate the premises.

“We would like to remind you that those promises are legally owned by the synod and if you will not vacate immediately the synod shall no option than taking a legal action.”

Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango has been denying to comment on the issue but some reports indicates that the breakaway congregation is now worshiping at Lilongwe Technical college premise.
