The ‘primary-school-uniform-carnival’ is also in commemoration of the Day of the African Child which falls on June 16 but celebrations happen throughout the month of June.
As deliberations proceeded, members of Parliament in unison forced Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara to remove her parliamentary robe and gown and remained in school uniform.
Education Minister Agnes NyaLonje was also forced out of the House to put on a school uniform to conform to the theme in the House today.
The Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first initiated by the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union. It honours those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976.
