Dennis Kachikho, sales manager for the company said quadrupling beneficiaries of the programme will also give business to seed companies.

Kachikho was speaking in Zomba on the sidelines of the launch of Affordable Inputs Programme by State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

He however warned farmers not to fall in the trap of buying uncertified seeds. He said such seeds lead to poor harvests and on long term breeds poverty.

"We applaud Government for increasing number of beneficiaries in the programme. As Bayer we are ready with high quality seeds and this time around we have packed the seeds in special packages so that we should easily identify  fraudsters who copy our seeds packaging," said Kachikho.

He said farmers should avoid purchasing seeds from unreliable outlets,"We are urging all farmers to access certified seeds in designated shops as they will have an assurance of  buying  genuine seeds."

In 2020/2021 farming season a total of 4,279,100 farm households have been targeted from the previous  900,000.
