Lightning kills two in Nsanje

Two people have died after being struck by lightning on Saturday and other three sustained serious injuries at  Dinde primary school in Nsanje.

 Nsanje Police spokesperson Pilirani Kondwani said  the deceased have been identified as, Edson Thanki 40 and Nota Kenneth 39, both of Nthole village T/a Malemia in Nsanje.


Frank Thanki,33, brother to the first deceased(Edison Thanki) who narrated that his brother and the other four victims mate their fate at Dinde primary school ground where they were watching a football match.


“The victims sought shelter under a mango tree when it was raining heavily followed by thunders.


Kondwani said Police rushed them to Nsanje District Hospital where the two were pronounced dead.


The other three victims, Alick Mwendokufwamba 43, Collins Zakeyo 64 both of Chiphwembwe village T/a Malemia in Nsanje and Steven Chakaya 41 of Chinami village T/A Chiwalo in Phalombe are receiving treatment at the said hospital and their condition is improving.


Police is therefore urging the general public to refrain from seeking shelter under the tree when it is raining and further caution footballers to stop the game when it is raining heavily.
